Re: Disgraceful coastal planting..

I also question some of the Nottingham decisions Ian. There are 5/6 tiny Trachycarpus's on BBC island (circa 1ft and only a matter of a few cms trunk), a major roundabout and fairly unsheltered and they are still there, yet there was a very well sheltered Trachycarpus in the display at the Arboretum...

Indeed Pete, although it's taken pride of place in the garden.

Re: Bargains of the week

Me and my other other half popped to Seagrave a couple of weeks ago and purchased a 5ft Dicksonia antarctica for £76, good times!

Re: Nice tall Trachycarpus's in Nottingham Garden

Yeah it's Mapperley top, they're v impressive. Will lookout for others. Is nice to see the council using a few more Trachycarpus's and a few other exotics around and about, even if only small ones.

Re: Nice tall Trachycarpus's in Nottingham Garden

They're real, go past fairly frequently so see the changes/growth throughout Summer. They're very impressive; I'm not jealous-honest ;-) Know any other good specimens around Notts Pete?

Nice tall Trachycarpus's in Nottingham Garden

Finally managed to take a pic of these two Trachycarpus's, they're a couple of miles out of Nottingham City Centre. Only managed to take one average quality pic as near a busy crossroads and nowhere to park.

Re: will these Trachycarpus's do well in north east England?

Adam is right...duration of cold is very much a key indicator, however, that particular Waggy (a young, non mature specimen) does seem to be an exception as it had a few of weeks at circa -8 to -10 and a few nights of lower than that. As a general rule though it's a combination of plant maturity and...

Re: will these Trachycarpus's do well in north east England?

My parents have a Waggy in their back garden in Hereford (admittedly not North East (English side of the Welsh border)) that I planted about 6 years ago, at the time of planting it was only 3 yrs old...it's trunk is a maximum of 30cms. It was totally unprotected and came through the last 2 winters f...

Re: Some macro pics

It's commonly called butterfly lavender, lovely fragrance in the warm weather... A macro is a function on most cameras and some camera phones that allows you to take a photo of something/part of something very close up and the subject in the shot shows up very clear and sharp and in high detail, als...
