Re: Chamaedorea Radicalis - Seed question

Hi, Yes, sorry my reply wasn't much help with the original question! The seeds were placed in a mixture of approx 60% Sphagnum Moss, 20% Peat compost and 20% perlite. I too have heard they don't need a lot of heat, but mine were placed with my other seeds on top of my central heating boiler. Approx ...

Re: Echium transplant

In my experience they don't like being moved but do recover well. I dug up quite a few self sown seedlings at my parents house. By the time I got them home they all looked dead but I potted them up anyway and watered a lot, leaving them sitting in water for a day. They all came back fine, even one w...

Re: Seedling ID?

Thanks for your replies. Just googled fragrans and marginata, I'm not so keen on those, they look like houseplants. Time will tell I guess!

Re: What is killing my Washingtonias

Thanks for the advice. I'll crank the fan up for now and get them outside or open the door as it warms up.

What is killing my Washingtonias

Hi, Just wanted to see if anyone had some advice on this fungus/mould/insect killing spears on my Washingtonia seedlings. Also seems to affect Jubaea seedlings to a lesser extract but everything else is unaffected. I've tried a fungus spray but I didn't seem to help a lot, I've also put a fan in the...

Re: Seedling ID?

Also threw some old palm seeds in the pot from jungle seeds back in 2010 and 2 Butia Yatay came up which was a nice surprise.

Re: Seedling ID?

I can't remember what the seed looked like.

It was grown on a heat pad in my garage with very little light then moved to an individual pot on the floor of the greenhouse again without a lot of light so that could have made it a bit elongated?

Re: I'm Not Saying We've Had a Mild Winter but....

All looking pretty much perfect and unprotected:

Aeoniums
scented geraniums
Lampranthus spectabilis 'Tresco Fire'
Carpobrotus edulis
Howea forsteriana
lots of Osteospermum

If only every winter could be like this (with less rain and wind!)

Re: Seedling ID?

Thanks for your replies. I hope it is a Dracaena, I've always liked them. I also remember picking up some random seeds in the park near the hotel, so could have been from there. What do you think of it's survival chances in Sunny Devon? I also had two seeds grow from what I think was a custard apple...

Seedling ID?

This sprouted from a pot of old seeds I collected in Madiera 4 years ago. I never got round to trying them so threw them in a pot last summer.

It could be an exotic fruit we tried? Or from some seeds I bought in the market in Funchal. Any ideas or too early to tell?

Thanks

Re: NiKau Palm seed spouting after 4 days in water?!

Thanks Kata, those are the Tresco seedlings.

I bought some Ceroxylon too, they are doing well and moving now.

I love Tresco, have been visiting every year since I was about 7! The Nikau are my favourite, they look as good if not better than ones I've seen in New Zealand!

Re: NiKau Palm seed spouting after 4 days in water?!

Hi, All my Great Barrier Island seedlings are all doing well. I think I have arround 50 seedlings from my 100 seeds. The seeds were put into sphagnum moss with a bit of peat and perlite added and seemed to like it quite moist and I've had no problems with rotting so far. They are in the greenhouse (...

Re: Guerrilla gardening

On the subject of Waggie seeds, I recently bought 1000 from rarepalmseeds and they started sprouting after about 2 weeks at room temperature, and near 100% germination now.

I am selling some excess seeds, if you are interested in any you can message me.
