Schefflera taiwaniana

When I had my first macrophylla, I took Crug's low temperature as a rough guide. Unfortunately it died the first Winter, I had it for just a few months. I've got another 2 which I've had for a few years, (one from Chad, thank you) but feel that they would both benefit from being out of their pots an...

Thanks Arlon. If I'm successful I'll try it further up the garden where it's definitely a couple of degrees warmer than where I have it now. The delavayi I was surprised about. I mentioned it on this sister site and think I said it was about 3ft wide but looking at it closer it was more like 4 1/2 f...

Great propogation. I've tried and failed with rhododendrofolia, with a different method, and think I will try yours next year. The plant I have needs thinning out as I've lost the growing point many times since I've had it and now looks overcrowded. How long did it take to form roots? I'm guessing t...

What is the growth rate of a mature Chammy?

Trouble is, if you take the side shoots off and we have really low temperatures again, then you have no plant, but leaving the side shoots on, at least one or more will likely survive, so all is not lost.

Nothing here, and like you haven't had any rain for ages. It's cooler though. 18 degrees today.

They needs shade. I have mine (or did have) on the north side of my Trachycarpus and have had no problems with it prior to this Winter. The only downside were the small snails that used to feast on it. :(

Said I wouldn't try these again, but as being as they are so beautiful, I have  Again, I bought my seeds from Chileflora earlier in the year, went on holiday for a couple of weeks and left them in the not so capable hands of my non-gardening daughter. Came back and am pleased to say they are in...

Wish we could see your photos ted. It's gutting to lose a nice specimen, it must have looked wonderful with leaves that size. I haven't got many succulents, two or 3 maybe but was surprised 3 small parryi's survived without protection planted right up against my house. I feel blessed they're alive. ...

Sorry about the delay in replying. It was Hayloft who suggested it was "heavily scented", maybe a typo. Saying that my nose isn't that good on picking up some smells, hopefully I'll find out in the not too distant future. I'm trusting my non gardening daughter with the watering whilst away...

I would be really pleased if mine grew as well as yours Charlie. I do heat the conservatory in Winter and am hopeful of flowers now I've read your comments. I believe they are scented and flower in the early part of the year?? If that's the case, it will be nice to have a bit of perfume in there dur...

Well, I've been doing a bit of reading and am quite excited about these plants and realise I will need just the one plant to the pot. It's a vigorous grower and shall be kept in my conservatory during the Winter. Not sure how old before they flower but below is a picture of one in flower. I think it...

I wish I could take a pic of my Basjoo as the leaves on mine close up in hot weather too, just as Jim describes. It's planted in the ground and in full sun. I've just tested the soil and it's still moist from my last watering. I would imagine also, if it isn't getting enough water, it would have the...

Mine is up against my south facing wall in a big pot and it came through this Winter with just damage to one or two outermost leaves. I hardly protected it, I say hardly, I did protect it with fleece in December when we had the snow, but took it off when the snow had gone so went totally unprotected...
