Re: Re-design a Hardy Exotic garden. Ideas please

Had to wait to get a bit of daylight to take photos. Here's a stitched panorama of it. As you can see, tall fence, and mostly laid to lawn right now. Plants in pots are ready to go in when I decide what to do with them. The concrete path at the bottom of the image is one continuous piece, where I am...

Re: What's a great specimen plant for this corner?

I'd think about putting a climber in there. Why? Because I wouldnt want to stop the sun getting into the room behind by blocking it. You could trail it up and around the window itself. Also, to have something like a jasmine would provide a nice scent, again to drift into the room behind. Lapagaria R...

Re: Can you dissolve chicken pellets?

I throw a load into a large bucket, add water and leave in the garden with a lid on it. When I need some, I just pour some out. Top up with more pellets and water whenever I remember.

Re-design a Hardy Exotic garden. Ideas please

Hello everyone, especially all those I know. I've moved home, and now have a nice, shiny new garden to deal with. It's larger than my old place, and I've spent a few months clearing it out to create an almost blank canvas. As some of you may remember, I grew my plants in (large) pots so I could brin...

Re: irrigation systems

Pete, there are a number of ways you can do it. For example, you can divide your garden into sections, and water each one after the other. That means more pressure to smaller area, so better. Also allows better control to water plants with differing water needs. I've got 7 sections around my garden,...

Re: Snow on the way again......

Blizzarding down here now. Been snowing lightly all day, but now getting heavy and settling. Salt gritters are out and about. Wind is also rather strong..just took down the ladder which was up the tree... just in case. And had to retrieve and re-fix my cactus cover which had been blown away. And it ...

He can't count either. He's claiming it's for 3 palms.... and down the bottom of the ad, for 5 palms.

Email the seller and ask for a picture of the actual plant. And then show us!

Re: Variegated Phoenix canariensis_CIDP

The older fronds are green, but the more recent ones have been coming out half-and-half, more or less. It's got enough green to survive nicely, and the odd splotch of colour to add interest. I got it from Mark, at Todds Botanics. He spotted it in a consignment, and put it aside, in his 'secret' area...

It's not at all affected by sunlight.

It'll be interesting to see how it grows.

Re: Variegated Phoenix canariensis_CIDP

Ok... took some pictures. It's not looking it's best, given it's winter, but here you go. Topview: As you can see, great big swathes of variegation. P1270055Clean.jpg P1270064Clean.jpg Also, all stems have stripey variegation: P1270063Clean.jpg Some fronds also show stripy variegation - lengthwise. ...

Re: Variegated Phoenix canariensis_CIDP

I've got a variegated Phoenix canariensis_CIDP

The variegation shows itself as yellow stripes lengthwise along the stems. It also shows itself as half-half green/yellow leaves....one side yellow and the other side green.

I think I posted a picture of it before on the forum.

You can always use Google spreadsheets and put a link from HT to it.

Also means 'trusted' members could update it themselves.
