I don't think tropical gardening is untrendy i think the normal working person hasn't the time and effort for it, and more for hobbyists like all of us. :D I liked the tiny glimpse of Nick Wilson garden in wales, the thatched hut, walkways through the jungle with koi ponds and huge foilage plants.. ...

this is the 2nd year in the ground, flower next year maybe. if i am lucky

i come up with this as to protect it, some bamboo sticks and thick polythene bag material stuffed with some straw under the leaves and pinned down with rocks. hopefully do the trick and let a bit of light in. :?:

true yea it protected it against that lot of rain we had, i will try build a frame or fleece bag, what about one of those, walk in plastic greenhouses just over the top of it, no way am i digging it up,done that before and lost the plant....

i couldn't wait to next year i recently bought a yucca rostrata , and a very small Taiwaniana and a fatsia polycarpa, next year ive ordered lots different ricinus caster beans, red sun flowers, Amaranthus .I hope to buy a washingtonia robusta next year, but i think i am totally out of space! i need ...

echium pininana protection

I have 1 echium pininana its grown a good size this year and hoping to get a flower spike next year, at the moment i have just put a black compost bin over the plant with a lid on.. would this be ok,its in complete darkness.. or does it need better winter protection?

a few winter ago i had mine in the outhouse, very thin glass, it killed it, prob as bad as being outdoors ...really no insulation in that room at all. It was a huge 8ft specimen as well. so cold for so long just wiped it out. This year there in the house and 1 of mine is still got a big flower on! d...
