Re: cacti?
I'd say that Springy is correct with those IDs.
Only one I don't recognise is the bottom right, but thats not to say Springy is wrong.

Re: Touch of Californian winter cheer.
Some lovely specimens there I think the silvery/grey cactus is actually a euphorbia. Not sure but reminds me of Euphorbia Mammillaris variegata (but somehow less spikey?).

Two evergreen shrubs for ID
Two shrubs both evergreen, two photos of each. Earlier in the year the one with red berries had silvery foliage but it isn't very silvery today. The one with white flowers is flowering at the moment if that helps. Shrub 1 leaves http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/3247/shrub3.jpg Shrub 1 berries http:/...

Re: Some serious stuff on my cactus/which specie is this one
What I would do is to cut above the rot (see attached picture) and re-root the top cut by letting it callous over till it dries out but keep it standing straight, tied to a stick maybe? (see red line) And when it had calloused over re-root it in sand (but don't bury the stem, rest it on, again using...

Re: What is the line for exotics/hardy tropicals?
What about Japanese plants, I can think of quite a few which don't appear especially exotic and are commonly planted, e.g. Japanese Cherry Prunus Serrulata, Spiraea Japonica and of course Acer Palmatum. Would these count? In my opinion they would with a mix of bamboos, japanese aralia and some asian...

Re: What is your kind of exotic gardening?
I lost all the available Sikkimensis and parent Nanas last winter simply because I had nowhere to put them so they had to take their chances  . Scary thing for me is, I know I'll replace them when I see them at the right price Its the desire to have the sikkimensis (as a collector) but also t...
