suggestions for a patio at the Costa Blanca ?

... range of succulents. Tough foliage plants like plumeria would do well in containers. Bougainvillea would be a star choice. In the hot climate but ensete maurellii may lose a lot of its red colour in the heat

suggestions for a patio at the Costa Blanca ?

... for easy plants to cheer up the place. Any suggestions? Is a bougainvillea easy to grow in a pot? It's quite a big place, I thought I'd put in a Ensete Maurellii in a corner. It's desert-like dry where he lives, with plenty of sun in winter. Cheers, Eddie

Temperature difference in UK

... couple of weeks ago. It blackened the leaves of my bananas and cannas. I have now cleaned the canna rhizomes up and brought them in as well as the ensete VM trunk. The musa basjoos are still there though showing all the evidence of the frost. Fair to say that the wind had a good go at them too.

Lasiocarpa is a good one. My ensete hiniba is also pretty tolerant.

Endorse Chad's list but adding Ensete montebelardii as the slimmer leaves (compared to maurellii) seem to shred less readily. .

... The only one that doesn't get shredded here in Cornwall is Musella lasiocarpa. Musa basjoo, 'Tibet', and sikkimensis have proved hardy. Ensete ventricosum is hardy here for about three out of four years without protection; I lost it this last winter. The red forms are reputed to be hardier ...

What is damaging my ensete

I planted a new Ensete Maurelii a few weeks ago and it has already produced several new leaves. However, the most recent one (which has yet to unfurl) has had much of its top eaten. I cannot see anything in it that might have done ...

30% Off Ensete bananas

I got a lovely Ensete from Wyevale GC today. I paid £9.80 at the till as they were marked up at £14. I seemed to have done well as all the others were marked up at £16 and were slightly smaller. The one I bought was 2-3 feet tall ...

... and then repot in the Autumn/Winter. I do this as the plants grow significantly larger and often don't fit in the original pot. Gingers, Canna and Ensete will grow considerably larger in a season and will not go back in the original pots. It's up to you, but I would suggest that keeping a plant ...

Planting out tender plants

All my tenders are in pots so I either pot on or leave them be rather than put in the ground. The only exception is my ensete hiniba which I'm trying to grow on but nearly lost it in early summer due to root rot so it's not doing much again.
