Bamboo advice

Will be planting out my three bamboos shortly, phy. Aurea, phy. Spectablis and phy. Aureosulcata aureocaulis. They are in pots at the moment, and was wondering whether they needed to be contained to prevent running. I remember somebody telling me that i could plant them in a large buried bucket/bin ...

Re: Best screening material?

Thanks deedee icon_thumleft just found a website called Primrose, with some excellent deals on 4 metre lengths of screening, with free delivery. Quite like the look of the Acacia screening. Just under £20 a pack plus free next day delivery for the size i require :D

Re: Best screening material?

Popped into wilkinsons after work, they didn't have any willow screening, but did have 'black fern' screening. Has anybody tried this or had experience of this?

Re: Black Sambucas

Recently purchased a 'black lace' still in the pot at the moment, ready to plant out shortly. Wanted it to add height, bushiness and contrast in a 'jungly' border. :D

Re: Best screening material?

I think i'd get pretty peed off watching birds pinching bits off, so may have to rethink. Tried bamboo in the past and it's ok (yours looks fantastic Coddy) but i wanted to try something that looked natural to the surroundings and would blend in to create a tropical sanctuary of serenity and peace.....

Best screening material?

I'm wanting to purchase some screening to cover a wooden fence running behind my tropical border. I've looked online at a few different materials, and am swaying towards brushwood at the moment. I particularly like the fact it is a darker colour than say, bamboo and should show up large green leafy ...

Re: How will our basjoos be faring?

The stems on two of my basjoo are soft on the top few inches, but the leaf coming up still appears firm and green. Would they be best left alone or will them need to be trimmed? :D

Re: plants in garage

Most of my potted plants have been in and out of the garage for the past couple of months. The longest they have been inside, has been the past week or so when the temps have been very low. My garage is a life and space saver for me, as i have little room elsewhere to put anything. Yes, the temps ge...

Re: Fronds unfurling!!

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. Have put fleece back into the crown and will now hope for the best. The fronds do have a little way to travel as the crown is quite deep down in the trunk. I think i also read somewhere that an early flush can be the result of a dry Dicksonia antarctica? :D
