Re: Going to make over front border with plants and slate

Hello spent 7 hours yesterday clearing border. Put about 6 plants out back in my middle border( day lillies and a dwarf conifer and some other evergreen shrubs and flowers). Then had to sieve the entire border as there were hunderds of bulbs in there( bluebells etc) and had to get rid of every piece...

Re: Going to make over front border with plants and slate

Hello bought 6 platts black phormiums today and 6 carex evergold and 3 lavenders. Will clear ground and lay these out and see if it looks ok. Did look at yuccas but they were spiky and I do not like spiky things as my cat may injure himself. There were a couple of soft yuccas but they looked very si...

Re: Fatsia.

Hello I have about 15 of the green variety. They can get to about 2 meters tall in the right conditions. The leaves will grow darker green and bigger in the shade. My one in the shade is about 5 years old and about 2 meters tall now, so they grow very fast. They are easy to prune and look after. I a...

Re: Going to make over front border with plants and slate

Hello Trudy
thanks for your advice. I agree with all you say apart from the slate bit. My neighbour has plum slate and I do not like it. I much prefer grey. Love you planting ideas, sound very good. Food for thought.

Cheers

Re: Yorkshire Kris Garden Blog THE GRASS IS DOWN!

Hello
your garden looks amazing. I have the same log edging and simply cut my lawn edge with garden scissors. It does take a little bit of time, but well worth it. Your garden looks full of colour. Beautiful

Going to make over front border with plants and slate

Hello my front border which runs under my lounge window(right next to house wall) and then curves round next to my garage looks old and sad. Some plants are nice and they were only put in 2 years ago. Small evergreen bushes etc. I will save them. The border is full of bulbs and one end has dwarf bam...

Re: Feeding your plants?

Hello Trudy, thanks for your reply. I water my bananas every day with just water ( apart from day 7) and water my palms 2, 3 times a week ( only once a week with feed) so as you say the salt hopefully gets flushed out. Had so much rain here too recently. But had a lovely sunny day here today icon_th...

Re: Slate and Bark chippings night!

Hello
the slate looks great. Half my borders are slated and I love it. I did years ago use bark, but the birds kept flicking it everywhere and I was forever clearing it up. Some of my palms in pots have slate and it finishes the look off. And birds cannot throw it about, lol
