After looking further into Bamboo Ferns, I discovered there are three main species; emeiensis , intermedia and japonica . All are said to be hardy to around zone 7b (around -15c) ...

canine bamboo control

Phyllostachys taking over the garden? No chance. I just point to the new unwanted culms and tell him to 'Kill it!' and Bubbles the collie gardener grabs them and pulls them out then has a good munch. Saves me hours of pulling them out myself. Can be hired for 20p per culm!! :D

Mushrooms growing in my bamboo

A bit of a strange one. I noticed some mushrooms or fungus growing amongst my bamboo earlier today. Its a potted Pseudosasa. It was mulched with well rotted B&Q farmyard manure earlier in the season. I'm certain the manureis been bulked with mushroom ...

Mixing Bamboo Varieties?

In planning my planting I was thinking of putting some Bamboo varieties next to each other - to hopefully get some contrast. Will that work, in practice, with clumping bamboos? I was thinking of a black Phyllostachys nigra next to a P. aureocaulis for ...

B&Q dwarf bamboo question

... went to buy soil but you know how it is. Both are very small in 1 litre pots. I've read that small divisions aren't advisable with any bamboo, but I thought I'd take a punt anyway. Any advice on getting them going? much appreciated as always.

Black Bamboo Struggling

... few new leaves. It is in an east facing position with morning sun year round with the protection of the neighbouring house. Is this a fairly slow bamboo? It gets plenty of water and feed but is performing poorly. Does anyone have any tricks to get this one moving?

Bamboo sticky residue

I noticed earlier that my pseudosasa japonica has a clear sticky residue on the leaves and its pot. Is this normal? It was potted on from from its previous pot bound state about a month ago and its been well watered. I read it elsewhere it could be a bug infestation but i can't see any. :?

Help for this black bamboo

Hi guys, This black bamboo froze in its pot last winter, at least for a week or two. As you can see a lot of the leaves turned brown, and it has yet to send up any new growth this year (whilst other bamboos in the garden have done). ...
