Colocasia gigantea 'Thai Giant' flowering

Reputedly not the easiest Colocasia to grow, but undoubtedly can be the biggest. They do seem to need a modicum of warmth, so has been in my Lunar Module/Tropical Island, away from out sub standard temperatures. Today, for at least one ...

Found why my planted out Colocasia weren't growing :-o

Last year I left many Colocasia planted out mulched heavily, with some covered with bell cloches or propagator lids. They were very late to show any movement due to winter continuing right up to the start of April. Then with some warmer ...

Hi All, As i'm quickly running out of window sill space (and the better halfs patience is also running low) i just wondered what the minimum growing temp for for colocasias may be. I'm talking the type you may get from a supermarket and "Black magic" . Ideally id like to move to the greenh...

Who's still got Colocasia gigantea 'Thai Giant'

It has been a bit touch and go over this extended cold winter, but with the heat mat, and a 30w grow light supplementing daylight, the Thai Giant is starting to grow well.

Anyone else still have them, and how are they doing now?

Colocasia Gigantea

Hello,
I wanted to post a couple of photos of my Colocasia Gigantea (Thailand Giant) from last fall. I live in Chicago USA and grew the plant from a 4 inch pot. The largest leaf measured 4.5 x 6.5 feet.

Colocasia "Nampi Costa Rica Eddoes" (4/6 now shooting pics)

I'll log the progress here, hoping I'll find some pink stemmed, rex leaved beauty hidden in this stock  If not i'll be happy to see how big the standard Eddoes get as a trial run before investing in the specialist nursery stock. Few breaths into zip bags and put on top of my boiler, will it t...

Bringing Colocasia out of dormancy

So, this Colocasia Black Beauty appears to have entered dormancy over the winter. Recently I have kept it at room temperature, above a radiator, and kept it moist. It has a lot of small leaves shooting up, but all still seem to ...

Colocasia water temp

Last year my Colcasia Black Beauty grew next to my pond, but this year I want it partially submerged. I know what sort of air temperature I need to wait for before planing it out, but is there a minimum temperature the water needs to be .... cos obviously this takes quite a lot longer to warmup?

I have been overwintering this Colocasia (Black Beauty you all identified) in an unheated conservatory and it has been doing great. I have kept it damp, other than when the temperature has got cold. I left it in someone else's care whilst ...
