Re: Cordyline Flower??? Cut if off or keep, Vote in the poll

I had a couple of cordys a few years ago that started to flower but i didn't want it to branch yet so i cut off the stalk before it had chance to open. Made no difference as they both branched afterwards anyway

T rex lost it's growing point

Got 2 T rex's with about 4 foot of stem, after removing the winter protection the other day it was clear I've lost at least 6" from the top of each. I know I'll probably get loads of pups but what can I expect from the main plants? Will I still get monster leaves this year? Will I get multiple ...

Re: Back in the freezer every week !

Met office says for me on Monday sunny intervals, 1c ,wind chill -5c, but a uv index of 3, so basically I can get hypothermia & sunburn at the same time...

Re: 2013: Who's got Snow !!!!

Got around 6" of the stuff now, been snowing almost without a break since 1am Friday. So glad I was in the garden Thursday tying up my phormiums & cordylines, treeferns still haven't had their protection removed from last cold spell. Anything that doesn't make it will not be replaced as I'v...

I remember seeing some at Akamba a couple of years ago that had stems that must have been 6 foot tall but with very stunted leaves

Re: B+Q End of Season Sale

I have found B&Q plant sales vary from store to store. My local one is pants, they will have loads of cold damaged plants in mid winter but wait until early spring to discount them. Every year they have rows of small Canary palm's & refuse to discount them even though every year they have to...

Re: Are you wrapping your trachys? POLL

Done nothing with my trunked trachies but my small 18 inchers have just had upturned large (very large) plant pots put over them whilst we have all this snow. Should hopefully act as a blanket

Re: If you could have any Tree Fern

I too prefer the look of cyatheas, biggest problem for me is where to overwinter them. My current favorite is my brownii, bought summer 2011 with next to no trunk & 2 foot fronds. Currently has a trunk just under a foot & fronds approaching 6 foot with big fat croziers ready to unfurl. Don't...

Re: Should I get a Cyathea Australis

This is the first year for mine left out, they were previously in pots & dragged undercover, This year they are planted out so I decided to daisy chain rope lights around them & then wrap mumfie style, the lights are an insurance policy & will only be turned on in a deep freeze

Re: Think I'm ready to show my garden

I'd just like to say many thanks once again. It's been a long hard journey for me to get here & to hear nice comments from others makes me think it was worth it. I have wondered what it looks like from an outside perspective & to hear good things makes me think I'm doing ok. Next year I want...
