Cycad watering.

I know some of you water your Cycads to get them to flush. How/what/when do you do it? Do you use warm or cold water. Thanks.

cycas

I have a large cycas in the garden still under cover do you think it would be fine to uncover it or would you leave well alone just yet?, My two smaller ones have been over wintered in a unheated greenhouse in there pots and are looking great.

NEW!!! CYCAD TIMELAPSE VIDEO!!

Ok before you watch it I must tell it's not that good! The problem being the cycad would not perform for me and do a proper flush! Anyway as it's taken all summer and autumn I felt I had to share it.

It just goes to show... (Cycas revoluta alive)

that a gardener should have patience. My cycad had a bad time of it during the winter 2011 - 2012 but I couldn't bring myself to chuck it. A last try at getting it going by repotting and plenty of water and hey presto we have take off icon_cheers

Cycas rev01 about to blow

Cycas rev01 is now around 25 years old and has settled into a routine of flushing every second year. It last flushed in July 2011, and the centre of the caudex is starting to show the tell tale mounding and slight hole in the middle.

I think the next warm, humid spell may set it off.
