Some Agave damage and some i.d's
... I think this is a filifera, which doesn't look to bad, a small salmiana which looks a bit translucent, so may be toast and an unknown Opuntia. Agaves 3.JPG Not sure what this one is? There's small americana to the right of it, again I think these are a bit translucent too so again, may be toast. ...

Agave Fillifera flower.
Its pouring with rain and cold, so I thought I'd look through a few old pictures. Thought these might be of interest, taken back in 2005. My 25yr old fillifera flowered. Agave gentryi and 'Jaws'
Had a conversation in the chat about Agave gentryi and it's variety called 'Jaws', which is supposed to be the 'toothier' version of the species. Apparently 'Jaws' is difficult to get hold off but I got both from the PC last spring. Both are ...

Agave Stricta - Safe out in a pot over winter?
Afternoon all.
I haev two pots approx 25cm square that I was looking to put Dasylirions in, but after seeing soem pic's of an Agave Stricta I think I prefer the look of that.
How hardy is the Stricta, would it cope with a winter in a pot with no protection from the rain?
Cheers
Dave

What is the hardiest Agave?
What I really wanted to know is are there any Agave that are likely to survive winter undamaged with no overhead protection, assuming it is planted in free draining medium.

Agave Question
As we have some agave experts on here, would you class this Parrasana as a variegated plant? I grew it from seed 2 years ago, it started life as a triplet ( a lot of the seeds also emerged as twins) and always had this sickly yellow ...

For a while now some of my larger Agave's that are outside have not been looking their best. For a while I assumed it was just due to the pants summer we are having, but looking today they appear worse. The Agave american appears to have red ...

Agave pups everywhere, but not a live root in sight
The consequence of this wetter than average year is..... when I did my annual Agave americana harvesting, the pups pulled out by hand, and revealed that all 15 had no live roots at all. I must admit the parent does not look as good this year so maybe that has no ...

Most of you know agave americana and a fair few others here are a few not so well known
As you can see the genus is very varied and unfortunately not all are hardy but I find them very intresting and challenging to grow

Agave filifera-or is it
Talking to Melissa and Chris G last night about Agaves and the potential confusion between A. filifera and A.schidigera. Whatever it is, it has grown and performed very well in damp soil at -10C without protection. Two pics of separate plants.
