Good morning all.

The flowers on Phormium are striking, scented too (although they remind me a bit of burnt toast!)

Can my Lapageria be saved?

Greenhouse wasn't for heat, mine are very cool and shady, I was more concerned to prevent root rots because if they are not growing then they cant cope with wet conditions. I dont think they are especially tender, -8c is normally no problem although -12c will cause damage to the stems especially the...

Can my Lapageria be saved?

I would put it back in a pot and protect under cool glass watch for aphids and make sure you don't over water it. They are very easy to kill until they reach around 7 years of age. I raise several hundred per year but only get a few dozen to saleable size each year. and even well established plants ...

Cordylines. Pruning help

I dont know for sure, but Hardy Exotics, Lower Keneggy and Treseders all down here have them from time to time, but I would save your money as you wont be able to grow one, they are all but impossible even in a good place and die for a past time (one of the reasons we were all sure yours wasnt it!)

Cordylines. Pruning help

If you wait until the leaves go brown then pull down sharply they come off clean leaving you that pattern on the trunk, by cutting them you will still get that effect but will have to wait until the leaf stumps fall off naturally. And all the pictures are of Cordyline australis

Don't think there is an online list but you could ask Neil Armstrong the owner, he pops up from time to time on GOTE These are a couple I have spotted there but as I said I am no expert and I would normally only point the camera at stuff that was doing something so there are likely to have been more...

Stubborn Bougainvillea

A lot depends on the mixture of species in its genetic make up, a lot of the best hybrids for us in the UK prefer a cold dry winter and can sulk if kept too warm. I would put it somewhere with plenty of sun but very little water and keep fingers crossed

planting of Hedychium gingers

Not critical but I always submerge all the root system as they quickly mound up above ground level at which point they are vulnerable to hard frost events (although they always come back from deeper down)

Palm Help & Advice Please

I wouldn't be too concerned, my small ones I grew from seed are now 10 years old and have all spear pulled every year except this last, they have always looked fine by mid summer and I am hoping they will grow out of it as they get bigger, its disappointing nothing worse!

I have one in one of the ponds, bought as a lovely big pot full from a plant heritage sales table, it quickly reduced in size and now manages about 4" by the end of summer if I am lucky, I would retrieve it but its too hard to get at without upsetting other stuff. I think a wet pot and protect ...
