Hi Ted, I have just come back from Egypt {honeymoon). Were f course there are plenty of dates, I didn't bring any back as I think it is a lot of trouble to grow something you cant hope to keep long term. You would have done better to have left them until they had turned black. icon_thumright

Hi, I also thought you needed a male tree to pollinate your grandads Trachycarpus, are you shure the seeds are fertile? If so there must be a male hiding somewhere.

Hi Doddy,

What part of Worcestershire do you come from? I lived in the village of Burcot most of my life, hope the garden goes well. You can find plenty of advice on here.

Dicksonia antartica fungal growth on trunk

kite567 wrote: Tue Nov 06, 2018 7:00 am My advice is simple, just blast off the fungus with a jet of water from a hosepipe. Seeing as it's very mild at the moment, now would be a good time to do it.
What a stunningly simple idea, I knew I liked you when we me at Crug!

Amazing Maderia.

Thanks for sharing your pictures, it looks very inviting. Madeira is a place I've always wanted to go to but perhaps not quite enough as I haven't got there yet. icon_thumright

Hi R Gates, how about telling us your name? As for your fungal growth I don't pretend to be an expert but I have grown plant for a living for a good part of my life, so I hope my comments are just common sense really. Trachycarpusbuying which to buy?

Hi Moods, the two things you haven't mentioned are the trunks and the roots. Do they have nice fat trunks, there is nothing worse than a Trachycarpus that has a thin bottom to the trunk which then fattens higher up to my mind they look appalling. Then the roots do they have a good root system? No r...
