Re: Dwarf Cavendish Flowering

It can't be a Dwarf Cavendish, as they have a pseudostem of 7 to 9ft, with leaves on the top. Overall height around 12 to 15ft. Dwarf cav is the plantation banana grown in the Canaries. If around ...

Dwarf Cavendish Flowering

My Dwarf Cav which I have had inside, south facing lounge for almost 4 years is flowering this year ( will try and put some pics later).

Just wondering whats the chance of it producing fruit and will it die after it has flowered?

Re: Musa dwarf cavendish double roller

... they are clearly new leaves. At five feet high they would not be 'super dwarf'. Super dwarf grow to 6ft including leaves, dwarf cav grows to 14ft  Dwarf cav are the ones they mass grow in the Canaries.

Re: banana dormancy

As said it will depend on the species, and some like dwarf cav and Siam Ruby will just die.

It will need specific questions, not just Musa. Same as palms they are all different :)

Re: WILKO MUSA BAJOO BARGAIN - ALERT

This is a pic of my super dwarf cav back in 2008, and I really thought I had a chance of getting it to flower, but lost it after a cold snap meant my conservatory stayed around 6 to 7C for a week

Re: WILKO MUSA BAJOO BARGAIN - ALERT

If they are dwarf cav, they do not go dormant, so need to be above 10C for maybe 20 hours a day, no lower than 6C for a short time, and in the highest light you can give them. A dark, unheated garage will see them die in a very short time.

Once you have conquered that problem Rabbie, the next problem becomes what do do when it starts to get big,if dwarf cav or cav

Re: Dwarf Cavendish Banana. Success Indoors?

My dwarf cav goes in my study over winter. its not particularly bright in there but stays a constant 19-21c. Just have to be careful when it goes out in spring not to shock it too much but a good dose of HMC helps it
