Re: First snow of the year - Manchester
Scrapped the car for the first time since November and the 3rd time this winter. Came off easy as temps did not get below 1C. I can see snow on the hills behind Edinburgh. Still so must be colder over the hills. It snowed last night when I came off the train and we had some heavy showers throughout...

Re: When to plant Bamboos from pot to ground
I was told that you could plant bamboo out any time of the year apart from when there was frost in the ground. I have a Fargesia rufa and it performs really well up here in my garden. Be aware that whilst the culms are pretty straight it will produce a lot of top growth, so put it somewhere it can s...

Yeah, I'd also been thinking, those houses will be gone by Sunday. The people living in them have already been evacuated (and probably evacuated themselves, too!) I am sure I saw a headline on one of the news websites today saying that some residents would not be returning to their houses, so you'r...

Paul Blight on UKWW was saying that the jet stream is now as strong as it was back in December and it has blown any cold over Scandinavia right back into Siberia.
I would like it to stay there, but also dry up a wee bit.

Sounds great Stephen.stephenprudence wrote:My E. mellifera is developing a primary stem now, so technically it's a tree.. it's about 7 feet tall. I'll get a photo soon!
A photo would be good.
My pasteurii keeps making it to about 4 or 5 feet tall and then gets cut down to the ground by ice and frost

Re: a lovely Spring day!!
Lucky you!
It's windy, cold and there are some light showers being blown around up here.
It's just a continuation of the last 2 months weather, sigh...

Re: On the other hand..
LOL Stephen! Lots of places up here in Scotland are keek for exotic gardening. I feel sorry for Huphora, she may not get the extreme cold that we do, but the incessant wind and rain must be ball-breaking :( I don't know much about Wales' geography to comment, but in England the wilds of the NE or NW...

Re: Mildest winter 2013/14??
Well, prior to last night the temperature here had not dropped below 6C , let alone 0C, it is pity that it didnt last until month end because I seriously doubt that record would ever get beaten. If this goes on into February as they predict, I would guess we would be on for one of mildest winters o...

Re: Need some ideas on border depth
You need depth in your borders to really set your plants off. Whilst they look a wee bit sparse at the moment they will fill out over the years.
Good luck!
