Yes its a Cordyline red star, they have both grown really well over the last 18 months or so, the one in the pot in particular.

Re: Planting ideas for a new border.

If you've a problem with lack of sun and poor drainage, a Cycas, which would be a massive challenge at the best of times, is not going to work for you and would be far better off in a pot. Also, the Yucca and Washingtonia, would be a no-no. Any of the others should be happy there, unless completely...

Yorkshire Kris wrote:Practical question, what's the plan for the washing line?
The washing line can be easily moved but to be honest I'd not given it much thought, and it doesn't get used very often. Probably just get rid of it completely.

Re: Its Spring time to cut the grass!

Well seeing as its refrained from raining for 3 days and temperatures look to pick up nicely for a while, I actually got round to cutting the grass yesterday and tidy up a bit. I still refrained from unwrapping the basjoo just yet, but may do at the weekend. To be honest it was the biggest waste of ...

Planting ideas for a new border.

Hopefully by June I will have a new fence along the borderless side of my garden, which will allow new planting and ideas. I already have a few but would love know peoples opinions and suggestions, as I value all input from many gardening minds. The top of the border ( which is closest to the camera...

Re: A debate

If these palms, in particular the Phoenix canariensis_CIDP are growing very slowly, to the point where comments are being made about it not even being noticeable over a periods of years, then surely this means the palms on the Wirral must have been there much longer than they are being given credit ...

Re: Watch out overnight

Some perspective on how good this winter has been and how we shouldn't worry about these few frosts creeping in. Thought I'd update the -4.0c or worse horror show nights. Did not think I would be updating it in March, let alone April! tonight could threaten it too! -7.2 13/12/12 -6.1c 31/3/13 -5.6c ...

Re: Watch out overnight

March last year was a complete horror show here, frost after frost, and it continued into April. Lets hope this is no where near as significant. My coldest temperature in 2013 was on the 31st of March!

Re: A debate

It certainly makes me more determined to succeed when I here people say things can't be grown up here and they are only short term prospects. My main aim in my garden is to grow a Canary Island date palm to a good size and lay claim to have away from the coast, and doubts only fuels my ambition.

Re: Watch out overnight

Worst type of frost last night, the one where it rains and then freezes to leave sheet ice on the car at 6am :x . Can't be much good for plants and impossible to wrap palms, same thing tonight by the looks of it.
