Cycad revoluta
Re: Cycad revoluta
And theres me thinking fronds are lemon..HAHAHAHHA
Mine looks rediculous. Some are the lovely green some yellow. Some are even yellow amidst the green...on the same frond, I guess thats the varigation someone else mentioned..
Someone on another forum said they loved my Varigated Revoluta..
My other one is all yellow. I will do what I did last year and keep drowning them from June.
Lets be grateful we got them through this terrible winter.
Don't worry.
Could someone explain what happens to old yellow fronds when the palm flushes again, do we leave?

Re: Cycad revoluta
Well mine is very variegated but I shall leave my leaves on until I have a new flush (hopefully it's this year). I always loved the look of a fully clothed Cycad and used to take the minimal of leaves off, just ones which had yellowed through age at the bottom, but this year I'll have a bare trunk with just the main flush.

Hi Di,
I meant to ask someone. Do we remove the old fronds after this years flush? More Important how if they not loose.
I would'nt mind them all yellow or all green but not that varigation lol

Re: Cycad revoluta
Mine has nothing but ugly yellow fronds left on it. I suppose that until they go brown they are still doing the plant some good, so they are best left on until then.
It hasn't flushed for me yet, I'm really hoping it will this year. I don't think I'll be able to ignore the temptation to cut the old yellow ones off if it does.

Re: Cycad revoluta
well i know in nature there isnt a 'old cycas leave remover bug'
i guess that means its up to you?

Re: Cycad revoluta
I'm not sure whether the yellowed leaves would be beneficial to leave on, maybe it wouldn't make any difference, but I'll take mine off when I get a flush just for aesthetic reasons.

Re: Cycad revoluta
Mike I know from previous yours has'nt flushed yet,
I followed what was said here last year.
Fill a washing up bowl minus the soap, fill it to the top and drown the revoluta, do the same again and again.
Next day, even everyday of june just drown it. Mine almost left the pot I put that much water in it. I did this at least two weeks. And inbetween we had a mini monsoon here around july...........perfect.
I will be leaving my fronds. I think nature knows best.

Re: Cycad revoluta
I did try that last year Kata without success, only did it for a few days though. I also tried feeding it plenty because I'd heard that they flush when they have stored up enough nitrogen. I'll try the dunking trick again this year, but it really owes me a flush whatever I do with it.
Re: Cycad revoluta
the fronds on mine are still a little green however the bad news is its a complete gonner, the top of the caudex has gone soft and has a gel like substance oozing out, so its dead.. Ill dig it out and throw it away tomorrow.

Re: Cycad revoluta
Would you plant out? or always leave in a pot. There are huge ones for sale near me for £20 each, but i have a storage problem currently!
Re: Cycad revoluta
Don't plant out nothing yet, soil is way too wet and cold.
You could buy a warming cable I guess.
My opinion anyway.
Others will have theirs.
