tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
The only thing is i have had it since march and it has only produced 3 leaves in which all of them are pathetic for a tetrapanax, or 'rex'.
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
Is yours in a pot? If so they really don't get going that well!
Is this what you're after http://www.toddsbotanicsdirect.co.uk/he ... er-rex.htm
I can't believe how much people are still charging for these
Cheers

Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
My 6ft T. Rex has been growing since about March and it still has leaves about half full size. I still say, be patient. Is it planted out or potted and if so, what size pot?
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
its in a fairly big pot say 20lt size, has chicken poop in the compost, plus has had the odd douse of palm booster when i have watered the Trachycarpus and waggies.
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
carol on this forum bless her, has offered one of her offset pups so at least i can compare with mine oneday
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
Yes, Carol is very good at dishing out her spare pups, of which there are plenty. Hers is a form that is very keen to propgate itself as Dave Brown and I can verify.
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
i guess your pup turned into a dinosaur
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
The cordy cat regularly worships the easy tropicals trex!
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
i really think you want to put yours into a half barrel at least.
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
has anyone spoke to carol lately as she says i can have one of her 'rex's but she has not replied to my pm's.
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
I said in an earlier thread that my Crug Farm T. Rex didn't have the long palmate leaves of other "Rexes" but having seen the lobes elongate as the leaves have grown in size, I wonder if growing conditions are responsible for the subtle differences we are seeing.
Has anyone ever managed to germinate seed apart from the Wyn-Jones' at Crug? Obtaining viable seed presents an obvious challenge. If people were growing it from seed, we could see much more variation (even variegation?). Seed listed here. I haven't seen it for sale anywhere else.

Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
Those Chiltern seeds are almost certainly of the species and not of the 'Rex' form.
Re: tetrapanax rex where to get a genuine one
I agree and if anyone could germinate them, there might be numerous forms available but I suspect for now there are only one or two clones in the trade.simon wrote:Those Chiltern seeds are almost certainly of the species and not of the 'Rex' form.
