Can anybody give me some advice on re potting a Phoenix Roebelinii. I bought it this year and i think that the pot is small.
I have bought some John Innes No3 and want to know if it will be ok for this plant.
Also what is the best plant food for this plant and other palms I have in my garden.
I will be putting the phoenix out now for the summer in the garden.
Would appreciate some advice.
Thanks
Jill

Re: RE POTTING A PHOENIX ROEBELINII
I would say no3 is fine maybe with a bit more added grit.
I give mine same as everything else. Miracle gro and chick poo pellets.

Re: RE POTTING A PHOENIX ROEBELINII
If you have Vermiculite I'd use that rather than grit, get some added moisture retention which will help over winter when it's indoors.
Re: RE POTTING A PHOENIX ROEBELINII
Vermiculite will break down in time so Perlite is the better additive for both holding moisture and aiding drainage.
I use a mix of JI and multi purpose compost with added Perlite.
Be careful with feed, too much will create a build up of harmful salts
