Biggest Trex (Tetrapanax papyrifer 'Rex') leaves
Just for the record my biggest leaf so far this year measures 85cm across. It's a two year old plant.
How big is yours?

Hmmm, made me think so I've just had a measure. Please bear in mind this has about 5 leaves and has just come from the ground having lost all my trunk this winter...78cmYorkshire Kris wrote:Just for the record my biggest leaf so far this year measures 85cm across. It's a two year old plant.

Re: Biggest Trex leaves
My huge one, the root cutting from Steve Jacobs (Mulu) in the front garden was huge last year, but was killed almost to ground level, by radiation frost rolling off the snow covered roof and pooling under the eaves In disgust it put all it energy into growing pups in the wrong places and all had to be removed. It is now in a deep, deep sulk worthy of a teenager
Here is was last November as a 25 month plant from the root cutting. I think the leaves were 140cm ish across the widest lobes. It's brother remained in a pot over 2009, and was planted out in June 2010, so size wise is a year behind. this one lost the top 1ft of trunk but sprouted lower down and did not produce loads of pups. This one is now growing well and fast. The largest full grown leaf at this point (this morning) is 91cm, but there are 3 new leaves still growing which will almost certainly be larger.

Here's an image then. It's the lower left leaf that's the biggest. The others are still growing.
