Post by cordyman » Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:02 pm

Thought it looked quite a compact bushy headed Trachycarpus - worth £12?

Might go back and get it if good for the price.

You possibly won't find one cheaper at that size. I bought some of those from B&Q last year, they didn't get through the winter.

i moved a b and q one a little bigger during the freeze and re planted where it was more sheltered and it still survived. However the one left out in the pot froze and centre spere pulled out and still hasnt grown yet.

Home base is hot for deals at the moment. 5o per cent of palms in Nottingham. I picked up 2 big date palms for 13 quid today, should of been £26 each. :)

i got a 2.5ft tall Phoenix canariensis_CIDP for exactly that price in my b&q a few months ago, was the only big one they had in too :)

must have put the wrong price tag on it or something but i definately paid just over a tenner for it so i was proper buzzin' about it hehe icon_thumright

I looked again, look every week in Homebase for a Trachi, none.

I don't know that B&Q had any in either some three weeks ago. Maybe cus we're lancashire they don't stock many tropicals here.

Well Cordy....did you buy?

Not that I'm standing up for any of the sheds, but the fact that it was a B'nQ plant (or Homebase for that matter) would have far less bearing upon them dying than the intense cold of last winter. Even Trachycarpus can be killed they are young enough and any newly planted Tf of the size in the pic is likely to be badly damaged at temps close to or below -10C.
