I know palms and cycad are different species but from a distance this looks like CIPD so much, don't you think ?

Cycad resemblance
Re: Cycad resemblance
Nice examples of convergent evolution!
Re: Cycad resemblance
I like mature cycads, they do indeed look like palms but unfortunately are much slower growing and less hardy in most cases.
Re: Cycad resemblance
The first time I saw a Macrozamia moorei I thought it was some kind of Phoenix palm, the resemblance is quite striking!

Re: Cycad resemblance
Thankfully macrozamia moorei is recovering / rerooting well this year. All the new growth now starting to arch as well. Hopefully next year the fronds will be twice the size

Re: Cycad resemblance
They may look similar, but there is one huge difference.....
the price
Any Cycad big enough to look like a Phoenix canariensis_CIDP, is gonna cost £thousands

Re: Cycad resemblance
I've traced ownership of my moorei to a guy called Peter Reid, here's a pic of it in his garden so i think he's the guy that fired itThe Codfather wrote:Has it been fired ???
I think i had a bit of a bargain with mine. Followed countrylovers link earlier regarding trithrinax and had a gander at the moorei on there....
