Is there a physical difference between them at all that you can notice, do the santa catarina grow a thicker trunk ?

As young plants they don't look any different, but when mature the 'Santa Catarina' queens look bigger & stockier, with thicker & deeper green fronds. Well from the pictures I have seen anyway...
As for the regular queen palms. Probably best to wait until the spring as the nurseries will be getting their new stock in then. Quite a few stock them (or usually do) & I know Amulree are getting some in...

Were they palmate when you got them? I think I see a couple of seed leaves.

There is a S.roman. santa caterina planted out at a hotel in Brissago, southern Switzerland since spring.
They have lows to max. -4°C.

Here's my two santa caterinas, in pots close to the house wall.
Not protected them so far this year.
Difficult to photograph them as the leaves are very long.
