Tetrapanax REX 2012 Post your updates here. (+TIMELAPSE)

Post by Yorkshire Kris »

Just thought I would start off this thread to show how well these grow throughout the year.

I have two and the photos were taken today. As you can see the first one tried to flower and a leaf bud can be seen underneath.

The second one is currently in the garage and already growing.

What do yours look like right now?

How do you mean iffy? Don't worry if they haven't got any leaves yet. Just don't overwater them.

Had a look at my planted out rex this morning. It was only a tiddler last year from Jaxx in Bristol but grew quite well with leaves approx 600mm. All my others are in half oak barrels whereas the one in the pic is in an old concrete lined fish pond. On clearing out some of the old bedding plants etc from last season, i've found 4 new pups coming up about a meter from the "mum". I was surprised to find those as its never had any root disturbance etc to set any pups off.

BoY am i glad i didn't plant any out unrestricted in the garden as my top soil is about 3ft deep in places and based on the one in the concrete pond , they would have run riot

Should hopefully make for a cracking bed of rex's now icon_cheers

On mine you can see in pics two and three the new bud emerging near the top in between the flower heads.

Mine flowered year before last and it kept on growing from the main stem but last year it branched from many of the old leaf bases.
as they get big the leaves get smaller.
