I've been gathering a few varieties of Farfugium this year and came across this curiosity.

Farfugium japonicum 'Ryuto'

Leaves are described as being like melted plastic. I'm a big fan of unusual plants, but I'm not sure about this one. What are the opinions out there?

Definitely . Looks diseased.

Well it doesn't look 'nice' but I find it interesting in that no one in your street will have it. If you plant it in your front garden, it will really make you stand out.

I'm not sure Kris. This is the only image I've found. Constantine Garden Nursery are supposedly selling it, but their site appears to be down this morning.

Agreed. It was this article that triggered my searches into harder-to-find Farfugiums.

I'm sure I've had that in my garden before, changed the dogs food after that

It's in the Cotswold Garden Flowers catalogue (the paper version) so they probably have plants for sale even if they aren't on the website. Not on my wishlist though

I have never understood the appeal of hideous plants, just cos no one else has one , probably because they have good taste, what pleasure can you get from looking at an ugly plant?
