Exotic gardening on a very small scale!

Post by Rick1965 »

Hello everyone,
Here is my attempt at an exotic garden. The area covers a measly 7 x 5 meters :(

Few more to follow.
Regards
Rick

Looking good. You've really made the most of your limited space. How hardy are you finding the Mimulus aurantiacus (Photo 2)? I grew it outside in Plymouth for five years or so before it succumbed - probably to old age. It's a great plant for summer long exotic colour.

Hi John, I only purchased the Mimulus last year but it stayed out throughout the winter, lowest temperature was about -6/7. Like you say it is a great plant and has been flowering since the start of May.

You have a lovely garden Rick, it looks really lush and exotic, much better than mine icon_thumleft
That mimulus is a real looker, is it evergreen or deciduous?

Hi Keri. The Mimulus remained evergreen but looked a bit tired toward the end of winter. Not bad though considering the amount of snow that layed on it. I can't big this plant up enough, the big bonus is that i bought it as a tiny plant last year for £1.50 icon_thumleft

That looks great! I think sometimes it's easier (and cheaper) to create a tropical garden packed out with plants in a smaller space!

Gorgeous Rick, full of colour and vibrancy, my space is only 9.5 x 5m so small also, however I find it much easier to look after and get a fuller effect. Well done its a real credit to you icon_thumleft
