ive noticed with various yuccas that stress caused by anything makes the purple set in. i am now convinced it can be cold, wet or even drought causes the same reaction. my latest example was a pair of seed grown brevifolias, (possibly not the real deal, they should be dead by now,) that i overlooked this summer in the polytunnel, they had gone limp and purple. i watered them a little at the beginning of this month, first in i dont know how long, and they have greened up again

I think the Aliofolias in the garden centres at that time were mostly purple which was it's attraction and the reason I bought the darn plant. Within 6 months the colouration had gone.
Who knows, ey??

That 'bright star' is a cracker, had mine 3 years now and it stands out so much in winter, mine has lost most of the red tinge though, that was thought to come on in winter and go in summer but it doesnt worry me.

The color comes on like that because

A.Increase in sun-lite.,as in defoliated tress
B.Moisture on the leaves while the sun is out.
C.The colder temps and sun.

Cold,moisture,sun.

Here a pic of my var. Y.Aloifolia, same thing.

?do you seriously have to resize every pic to post on here?

I have to go through all my 2000 photos to find this and then download
and then load to here-kind of a hassle as it would not even let me post a link....

Its bigger now but green-turns red every spring when the cover comes of...

Well just to say the plant is now on the compost heap. Apparently detaching a sideshoot the knife cut into the main stem causing it to rot. Hmmm didn't think this Yucca was that sensitive. I've just ordered a Yucca Baccata and it will fill that space. :D
