My Tetrapanax "Rex" papyrifera from Springy.
My Tetrapanax "Rex" papyrifera from Springy.
Hello Springy, thanks again for the T Rex that you sent me. It has now woke up and started producing leaves since i repotted it up and sat it in the window.
Below are a few photos as promised of how its getting on.
Here it is on Thursday 24th January when it first arrived.
And a few weeks later
3rd Feb
And here from today. Its picking up pace now.
Thanks again.
Does the T Rex have any special requirements and whats the best method for winter protection?

Re: My Tetrapanax "Rex" papyrifera from Springy.
I was wondering if these shed leaves as they grow. Mine seems to have the bottom leaves turning yellow as it is putting out new ones on top. That one looks excellent kohwoz
Re: My Tetrapanax "Rex" papyrifera from Springy.
looks like original growth point has died causing a multi stem version, very nice
Re: My Tetrapanax "Rex" papyrifera from Springy.
would likely be best to prune just above the active growth points now to make sure rot doesnt decend.

Is that right? No wonder mine is crappe.greendragon wrote:Needs 20*c to grow properly.

Do you think that it has got rot up top? Just pulled at it a bit it was dry as hell but still green inside.Mr List wrote:would likely be best to prune just above the active growth points now to make sure rot doesnt decend.

Its cold out Kata. Only 2 deg C. Minus temps are coming back again. Expecting -7 in the next few days.kata wrote:Nice plant kohwoz,

Inside is a lovely 21 deg C.

Doesnt look like rot to me, if it's firm I would leave it alone.kohwoz wrote:Do you think that it has got rot up top? Just pulled at it a bit it was dry as hell but still green inside.Mr List wrote:would likely be best to prune just above the active growth points now to make sure rot doesnt decend.

No I'm sure it's not rot. It's a shame that the tip has died back though. I would just let it die back naturally and I think you will find that the dead bit will fall off of it's own accord when it is ready to do so.Delboy wrote:Doesnt look like rot to me, if it's firm I would leave it alone.kohwoz wrote:Do you think that it has got rot up top? You could either leave all those buds to form a multi branched plant or prune the buds off so that it puts all it's growth into one stem. I wouldn't do that though until the dying back bit has finished!
Thanks for posting the pics and I'll look forward to seeing how you decide to grow it and where you decide to plant it!!

No way! It does most of it's growing in April/May when its rarely over 20c

......and hardly any would grow in Cornwall.
Looks pretty healthy to me, but would need planting out in the spring for the big leaves.

I thought hat sounded a bit high. Mine is still crappe whether it needs 5 or 20 degrees. Possibly too wet where it is, I might move it in spring.Yorkshire Kris wrote:pdid wrote:Is that right? No wonder mine is crappe.greendragon wrote:Needs 20*c to grow properly.

Looking more like a plant now. The original growing point still hasn't produced a leaf yet. Still dry.
