Cyathea dealbata creeping rhizome

Post by fern Rob »

I have a 2ft trunk dealbata and a dealbata with a trunk that is about 2inches. I have been reading that occasionally you can get a very rare creeping rhizome form, my small C Dealbatas crown grows horizontally every year which leads me the think that I have got a creeping form :D as well as the normal one.
The photo does not really show what I mean, but the croziers are facing sideways. :)

I don't think it is a creeping form, it's just the way they grow when young. They grow outwards before they go upward, similar in many ways to palms such as buita, jubaea, Phoenix canariensis_CIDP etc.

See here http://www.growingontheedge.net/viewtop ... a+creeping

Mine is a creeper at the moment too.

I'm not sure now, it does seem to be acting different to my young sporting C dealbata that are growing vertically,I suppose only time will tell. Thanks for the link.
