Diamond Head back from the dead!

Post by Yorkshire Kris »

My colocasias endured a couple of nights near freezing plus weeks at just over 5 degrees in the longest winter. Many didn't want to survive but this Diamond Head is finally showing it's face along with a Black Beauty and some others.

I'm now in love with these after my Tesco eddoes did so well, not so in love with alocasia's which I must confess are too fussy and slow for my liking. So next year i'm going to try some other varients of colcasias out, the diamond head looks a great colour.

Which other ones are bang for buck, strong growth and interesting colours?

Diamond Head performs well for me. I have some MONSTER leaves on them right now. I will say there not a true black more of a chocolate when next to a true black like Black coral or electric gecko. DH does pup alot and gets very larges leaves if thats what your going for

The easiest is Pink China. Mammoth and Jacks Giant grow really well too.

Lost all of my Diamond Head in the -12C windchill March. I had some in the conservatory, some in the LM and some planted out..... none survived :(

Not seen it for sale in UK this year.

Here are a couple of pics from last year. Diamond Head is the dark/black Colocasia.

Mine looked great too last year and out of two chunky plants only the tiddler above survived. Hopefully it will bulk up over the next year or so.
