Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
This year my garden has loads of them every plant apart from palms and agaves have been hit. It is like a full time job getting rid of the little gits. I have never had so many.
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Yes. They have eaten some of my ensetes. Snails destroyed my hostas and now my dahlias and cannas. Lilly beetle destroyed some of my lillies its been never ending this year despite my best efforts.
Most wanted list - Any Young Trachycarpus and/or fern.

Yep, got hundreds of the little butters all happily munching their way through my garden.
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Yes little green ones every where!! Brugmansias, t rex, pineapple broom, hollyhocks, laburnum, chilli peppers, mint, sweet peas etc etc.......... I've not had much snail or slug problems this year, thankfully.
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Just Whites on the veg. Peppers in the greenhouse have been munched but can't find the culprit but I did find a snail in the garden!
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Not had any problems. Even the slugs and snails are virtually non existent. Had a lot of aphids in early summer otherwise i've been very lucky.
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
I've had a huge problem with them especially when they are this size! Found it below my tree fern and was sizing up my cannas!
This butter was a full 5 inches long when moving!
Didn't kill it though as have never seen one in my garden before.

Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Had a problem with canna s getten eaten, emerging leafs have been well munched.
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Absolutely - I was also going to ask here. Started to find dozen sunder Raspberry leaves a few weeks back and have been finding dozens on many leaves since - Tetrapanax nibbled, Canna's nibbles, Ensete nibbles, top growth of Hedychium eaten, Fatsia nibbled holes all over, Wild Cherry leaves looking like autumn because of the browning caused by them. Not the nicest thing to do but a, killing hundreds every few days.
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Hi I have had the same problem here as well. So many of my plants have been hit. Brought some Brugs and they haven't had chance to really get going this year.
Re: Anyone else having a HUGE PROBLEM with caterpillars.
Not loads but some on my Begonia leaves,
its the Cabbage whites they never stop, even Pravado does'nt deter them.
I am still trying to track down a thin caterpiller type insect thats fair eating its way through my Fern leaves.

Eyed Hawkmoth - good find, it'll be spectacular as an adult. Good for you on letting it be!Somerset77 wrote:This butter was a full 5 inches long when moving!

Yeah, one for not squishing. I normally throw such beasties over the fence to neighbors veg patch.Conifers wrote:Eyed Hawkmoth - good find, it'll be spectacular as an adult. Good for you on letting it be!Somerset77 wrote:This butter was a full 5 inches long when moving!
