I didn't read it all but whats the point..from what i did read they wernt talking about invasive plants or anything like that. They simply wanted the honest name on each plant and a honest botanical name..WHY? I know what it is, you know what it is and are willing to buy it so who really cares what name is on it? This seems very costly and pointless to me why would anyone even bring somthing like this up in govt.?

I think the idea for this must of come from HTUK member Conifers who is probably fed up with having to keep correctly Identifing all our plants for us

From what I gather, they want the plants full taxonomy including birth certificates of both grand parents icon_scratch
Maybe this was brought about to protect the growers of plants with PBR. It's not as if you're buying cheap chinese copies of something

It would mean that swaps forum would be technically illegal, and anyone selling home propagated plants on ebay etc could be fined.

We already have enough problems getting plants which are bred in the US, and mostly rely on those who have them imported for us. If they then have to fork out circa £500 per plant type to trace it's pedigree, they won't bother, and the only route then would be to smuggle them in and trade privately.

The government is hoping to block this, but I would suggest everyone contact their MP and MEP to get this buried once and for all.

Wonder what this proposal will do to our agricultural industry and our thousands of different variaties of tulips in the Keukenhof and other bulbs sold here in bulk for a few euros.

Who cares about all the paperwork? Some plants sold here at supermarkets are really cheap and only labelled as green plant (no joke :) ) Greenhouses here are full with all kinds of plants, mostly hybrids given their own name by the industry. Famous dutch can get their own race of tulip.

Will there be a plant police btw?

I hate to be THAT guy and I know we have our own problems over here but I believe this is the kind of stuff that made my for fathers leave Britain. To much regulation and oversight by the govt. about things that don't matter..no I didn't forget we really left over taxs but oh well it sounds good
