The soil look so poor, but seems that have the required quality for ensetes.
It s almost impossible to replicate that soil type in our countries I guess. Sure that the soil is not everything, there are some other "minor" details involved, like warm and sun.

I am presuming the blog is from lower altitude circa 1600m as the Ensete look like standard ventricosum, and not the more red coloured cultivars used at higher elevations up to 3300m
The black colouration is normal in older Ensete and even my Maurelii has given up it's burgundy for a green and black stem. You can't just shred and eat Ensete, as it needs to be fermented for a couple of months before use. Which is why they wrap in leaves then bury it.cordyman wrote:
