Linearis is better adapted to our climate and is thus hardier.

I picked a linearis up from Amulree a year or two ago, it was planted last year and has settled in well. They are wonderful plants. I don't think pot culture suits the linearis, the leaves have certainly elongated since it went in the ground.

Also worth considering would be schefflera if you don't have one already.

Any pics of yours pdid, ?

My old hosting company looks like it has dumped me, so I hope that this photo is okay.

The plant had come from Amulree and had been in the ground for 3 years.

That was a Yucca linearis mate.

They are lovely looking plants and they are tough, but winter 2009/10 plus summer 2010 plus winter 2010/11 killed it off up here.

However, the chances of you seeing the weather I did over that 18/24 month period are extremely remote.

I would get in contact with Nigel Kembrey and see what he has to offer :)

Thanks Adam, some more food for thought icon_thumleft

Did you protect it at all by the way? or was that hopeless given 9/10/11?

No, I did not protect it from the cold, but I was not expecting to have snow on the ground continuously for 4 weeks one winter and then 6 weeks the following winter. We had minimums around -20C and a few days when the temperature did not rise above -10C. The only thing that would have protected it from the cold would have been heating wires.

And then we have a super wet summer, grrr! Lol! What do you do about that? I planted it in the sunniest and most well-drained bit, but it rained so much that the water table rose into the poor plant's root system :(

if I had £150 in my hand right now that I had to spend on one plant I would get a really big hardy schefflera specimen from crug farms.

they had 30 litre schefflera rhododendrifolia before

If we get some rest bite from the weather I'll nip out for a photo later.

You can see the new "bluer" growth from this year clearly on the photo's.
Mine has a bent trunk, personally I quite like it but it may or may not appeal to you. It might be worth asking for a photo before you order if you are buying mail order.

When they were shutting down palms tropical Oasis, they had one similar to that but it was in a precarious spot hanging over the water, couldnt get access with a spade, wish i'd have just pulled it out bare rooted
