Dead Dicksonia antarctica crown pics...

Post by cordyman »

Both my dead Dicksonia antarctica's went this way, the crown almost fossilises over, a solid formation, no rotten hollowed out hole which i'd expect where the growing point was.

Anyone else have a dead Dicksonia antarctica which has solidified ?

Not seen that. It looks like it dried out but the moss suggest that the area is damp.

Dicksonia antarctica seem to have a solid core unlike cyatheas.

All 5 did this at mine.Tried to cut the top 4 inches off to free the new knuckles.Wishfull thinking, didnt work, now sitting as a pile of logs that really must be put to better use this year.
Might drill holes in to them and plant native ferns into them or flowers.
