Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
Its terrible the amount of water thats fallen and caused all the damage, I should think it will take ages for the water table to decrease.
Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
from my point of view it has been the best winter on record.
super mild, haven't needed to do loads of worrying about plants rushing round with protection and the heating bills have got to be down from last year.

Seconded... best in the years I've lived here anyway (i.e. since August 2006).Mr List wrote:from my point of view it has been the best winter on record.
Wind and rain don't kill brugs or monsteras. Frost does.

It doesn't kill bugs and monsters either, I think we can expect to be busy with the spray in the springotorongo wrote:Seconded... best in the years I've lived here anyway (i.e. since August 2006).Mr List wrote:from my point of view it has been the best winter on record.

Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
Well the best climate is tropical and where life is abundant, the abundance blesses all lifeforms, not the select few you like.flounder wrote:It doesn't kill bugs and monsters either, I think we can expect to be busy with the spray in the spring
So it's kind of like complaining "Oh I won the lottery and now I'm a millionaire, and millionaires have problems that most people don't... they pay high taxes, they have a lot to steal from, etc."
Enjoy those bugs, at least they're life. And some of them will be ladybirds or turn into butterflies
Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
Yep and some of the insects will be aphids, weevils and a host of other plant munching beasties
Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
Average here which seems right. Crosby and southport got below average rainfall - you couldn't make it up...
Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
is Manchester in the 90-110 or the 110-130, hard to tell
Surprised Daves not flooded out thought with that super dark more than 225%!

Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
I expected to be in a much bluer area, it seems like its not stopped raining, but I suppose I've had no surface water on my lawn and I did in summer 2012.
Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
Certainly not the wettesy on record here in Preston, all in all it's been dry apart from a couple of deluges.stephenprudence wrote:Average here which seems right. Crosby and southport got below average rainfall - you couldn't make it up...
Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
In the 175-200mm area, although no homes have been flooded a lot of the surrounding area here is under water.
Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
Normal here too, maybe "in the South" should be tagged on the end. Yes we've had a few more storms than normal, but nothing exceptional bar the most recent one.GoggleboxUK wrote:Certainly not the wettesy on record here in Preston, all in all it's been dry apart from a couple of deluges.stephenprudence wrote:Average here which seems right. Re: wettest winter on record!!!!
Wow ,some of you guys have had a really nice winter , I didnt realise rainfall was so low in parts of the north. I just assumed everybody was suffering equally. Manchester is supposed to be one of the wetter parts of the country.
Bristol is certainly one of the wetter parts and we got 200-225% , 200% of already very wet, is extremely flipping wet

Rainfall in my garden this winter...Nigel wrote:Wow ,some of you guys have had a really nice winter , I didnt realise rainfall was so low in parts of the north. I just assumed everybody was suffering equally. Manchester is supposed to be one of the wetter parts of the country.

November 40.4mm
December 49mm
January 61mm
I think the lack of cold has put more focus on the rain though so it has felt pretty damp, although on paper not so it seems
The wet Manchester myth all started with a 1926 map Its more like 800mm a year which I think is pretty low How does Bristol fair with annual rainfall?
