This is a real picture, not photoshopped in any way!
Anthurium sp.jpg
No it didnt come from Pandora  Apparently its growing in a private garden in Panama at 2000m ASL but was originally collected from Andean highland rainforest in Columbia. Its supposedly unidentified but possibly Anthurium metallicum. Coming from such a highland provenance it makes me wonder how cool tolerant it is.

It certainly wouldnt grow in my lowland tropical garden, Ive tried a few highland Anthurium species here and all they do is slowly fade away, so unfortunately Ill never have one... :(

In general tropical anthurium and philodendron don't like temperatures under +15ºC but don't need very high temperatures, 20-22ºC are perfect for them and 30ºC aren't fine. They are good plants to grow at home if you control humity.

Albert it all depends on whether they originate from lowlands or highlands. Ive grown Anthurium scherzerianum outdoors in inland southern Australia which has quite brisk winters (average maximum 12c and heavy frosts), and I grow numerous Anthuriums here like cubense, schlectandallii, mcdougallii etc in my Darwin garden that thrive in the equatorial heat where you could count on one hand the number of days per year under 30c.

With over 1000 species and a wide distribution Anthuriums live in a divers range of habitats so you really cant generalise. icon_thumright
