Hi all,

So I have a few bananas indoors beside windows. Most are doing fine and growth has slowed a bit but one which I believe is a musa velutina has fallen victim to a toddler and had its pseudo stem snapped at the base. Is it brown bread or can I retrieve the situation?

Hi, Hiphop.To have snapped so low down the pseudostem makes reshooting rather unlikely. Nothing lost by keeping it warm (to promote growth) and almost dry (to prevent rot). If growth appears on the stem you've saved it. If the cut end turns black it definitely won't reshòot.

Should nothing happen after a few weeks, treat the whole corm as semi dormant and overwinter appropriately. If it hasn't rotted by the end of the winter then there's hope for it to pup. Warmth and a little moisture then may encourage it.

PS. Worth noting that a company sells dormant corms and small pseudostem of velutina. So a good possibility of success with yours.
