I bought one of these from Akamba in 2007 and planted it out in the jungle garden. It was not happy with our cold wet summer that year and nearly died, I had to put it in the propagator for that winter to recover.
I left it in a pot last summer and it has stayed in our living room ever since. It seems quite happy with the large temperature fluctuations it has to put up with (no heating during the night) and the low light levels, and I keep it quite dry.
I'm sure that some of you guys have this Alocasia, how is it performing for you?
Alocasia reginula - a good houseplant
Re: Alocasia reginula - a good houseplant
Thats a great leaf Andy, is it as velvety as it looks? One of those would go well in my conservatory, remind me when were up at Akamba just in case they might have one.
Re: Alocasia reginula - a good houseplant
The leaves are a bit of a surprise when you first feel them being stiff and with a fuzzy surface. These guys describe it better than I can.

That's because it's the same plant Dave. Do you keep yours on the windowsill and does it get much sun?Dave Brown wrote:Looks a bit similar to the Alocasia Balck Velvet I got from the first Wisley meet.
