Colocasia Alocasia suckers

When to remove suckers or best to keep on plants .I have suckers on my alocasia macs and Jack giant and Black magics .My colocasia from the international shop all look different no suckers on them .Some of the alocasia on greece grow a stem that looks like trunk do they in the uk.?

I have separated them when lifting in autumn as they do not need the roots as much over winter. but as someone pointed out you then have loads of pots, so maybe spring is a better time to separate them. If removing in Autumn, pot up in a small pot campared to the plant as there will not be much root activity over winter and small pots dry out better :wink: Alocasia really hate cold wet compost.

Alocasia grow trunks here as well. My mac has about an 8 inch trunk, but you can't see it as it has about 10 pups around it. :wink:

can you cut all the leaves off aswell to save space dave?

You can with Colocasia as they regrow quite quickly. Alocasia take much longer to restart and grow the leaves back. I attempt to keep Alocasia going :wink:
