 Paulownia Growth
When should you expect to see new buds on Paulownia Tomentosa? I moved mine recently to a new site, will that affect growth this year? Thanks, neil.

 Re: Paulownia Growth
Neil, I accidentally snapped the top off my little one which is/was only about a foot tall the other week, thinking it was rubbish which needed weeding out. Then, almost too late, I remembered what it was! - so I am trying to remember when they usually start into growth. Someone will tell us!

 Re: Paulownia Growth
Later in April, but the new growth often gets frosted here & seeing how cold it's been this winter, late in April is my guess.I am considering taking mine out this year anyway, didn't grow well last year.

 Re: Paulownia Growth
I cannot tell you when they will come into leaf, except to say that neither of mine is yet showing any signs of doing so, and I have no reason to doubt that they will.
I believe they flower (if you're so lucky!) late spring before the leaves appear, which would suggest that they are quite late coming into leaf.

 Re: Paulownia Growth
I took mine (1 year old) out of the ground and in a big pot in a plastic greenhouse and it's juststarting to bud at the side now - perhaps a factor of the nice weather. I'll see how i goes!

 Re: Paulownia Growth
Mine gets stooled each year and does not show buds until fairly late. No sign at all as yet, in the East Mids. Might be earlier if it was not cut back so hard.

 Re: Paulownia Growth
Hi Madahlia, and welcome I have stooled and left ones, and none of them are showing any signs of life at the moment. The ground is still just below 10C here so still quite a lot of warming up to do

 Re: Paulownia Growth
Yes, I looked at my unpollarded one this evening and can just make out small buds on the branches. Haven't noticed anything on the pollarded one yet but I will have a closer look over the weekend and get rubbing if I spot any.
There are buds just appearing on the Catalpa erubescens purpurea too.

 Re: Paulownia Growth
Going to cut mine down over the weekend, but if it don't do any better than it did last year,it's going to be it's last year on this world.Made a paltry 5 foot of growth last summer, previous years,I have had upto 4 metres(13 feet).

 Re: Paulownia Growth
The stooled ones I cut down in the autumn. I don't see the point of looking at a stick all winter just to cut it down once new growth starts. The one in the sun has two shoots. Not got close enough to the one in the shade to see. The one I left unstooled has no sign of any movement so far.
