Brugmansia casualty of the storm 11/11/2010

Post by Dave Brown »

I went up the garden this evening to check on the poly, and to my dismay my Brugmansia Charles Grimaldi that was 8 feet tall, and I posted on another topic saying I wanted to dig up and keep as much height as possible, was laying on the ground, flowers all crumpled  I hoped to find the soilball uprooted, but no...... it was snapped off 6 inches above the ground :(

Tomorrow I will try a 6 foot cutting in water.

Here it was last week

Lucky I have all my plants in pots,

I moved most right up to the back door, its not as windy in the back garden.

I hope it brings down the Leylandis...all of them.

Thats one beautiful plant dave, sorry it went down, good luck with any cuttings.

We all worried about frost and snow but high winds are far worst.

It was right in front of the poly Jezza, so I had to step over it. As you say it will be daylight tomorrow before I can assess properly.

I'd have been gutted :( Good luck with it whatever you decide to do.

Don't know what's going on outside, but there's plenty of activity :? Wont know till tomorrow if I have damage.

Great pic Dave

Di, good luck, hope all is well. After the damage from the rabbut you don't deserve more damage.

First one down by the beach, second one up on the hill with nothing but 100+ miles of open sea to the west!

Also this one I thought we could marry the storm and exotic gardening together, although this wind was quite tame compared the others video'd

You may have posted that in jest Dave, but as you have inadvertantly had the circumstances set before you, it might be worth seeing if you could successfully root a 6 foot 'cutting'.

Hmmm, a single stem, no big leaves, plenty of water......my money is on......YES!

If I'm wrong I'll give you one of my Ch. Grim. cuttings.

Actually, as I type I'm thinking more about this. I'd be inclined to shorten it to the first branching point so there's no effort going into flower buds. Still, a 4 foot cutting would be a hoot.

Good luck,

Mike.

Ste,

That fence, first vid did'nt look too safe.

Love the last vid second post. It reminded me of the palms in Tenerife when we had a very bad tropical storm. The palms bent in half but were fine next day.

It appears i got off lucky. In fact my trachys look like nothing happened. So no damage to report. The most i got last night were gusts of 30mph.
