Cacti..... out for summer !
Cacti..... out for ever !

A week ago the Cacti were in the loft awaiting the end of winter, but now they are brought down, potted up for a couple of weeks, before being planted out for summer. If frost threatens they'll have a fleece bag thrown over.

You wouldn't believe they had been in the loft in the dark for just under 6 months, would you
Best regards
Dave

Have to be bone dry, but NO light at all Gray :ahhh!: I didn't believe it either. There is a member 'Chalkbrow' hasn't posted for quite a while, who's an expert on these, and he suggested it. Not only does he know his cacti stuff he's an ace photographer, worth looking up some of his posts if your interested.
Best regards

Ihave been told they are good for -10C if kept very dry, but mine wasn't :ahhh!: It had a plastic bell cloche over the top, to keep rain off the but the sides were exposed to wet/snow. I covered the whole thing with a fleece bag in bad weather, but it is a pain, in more ways than one  , to get off again. I think the constant high winds have helped keep it dry.

We are not out of the woods yet as if rot is going to show, it will probably be May
Best regards

Fingers crossed its ok then. it looks good to me, maybe a bit on the pale side, but I presume that its due to the poor winter and early spring light levels you have had. Don't fancy getting spiked by something else is my only concern with this, fleecing agaves is not much fun. Then yesterday I tried to wrestle a yucca glorisia out if its pot for planting and lost out badly, in the end I had to smash a lovely terracotta chimney pot with a spade. :x

Had a browse through Chalkbrow posts; some lovely pics. Yes his knowledge of Cacti is great...but for now I'll stick with just the jungly plants.....& half dead window sill cacti....
