growing gingers from seed..

Hi all i brought some ginger seed two typesKAHILI GINGER " Hedychium Gardnerianum and another similer and did what the sewing instructions said soaked them etc planted them on 12th april but as of yet nothing how long do these type of seeds take to start germinating??

Therein my heated prop at arounds 25c there is a light in the lid too so there is some lighting in there as well ive been keeping the soil moist but not wet etc. Hopfully they will grow i was getting worried as the sewing instructions said around 20,25 days onwards lol .

I hope I'm wrong about this, but my limited experience with ginger seeds (Hedychium, Cautleya) has shown that unless the seed is fresh (i.e. still in its berry) it's pretty much a no-goer. I've been after Hedychium stenopetalum for some time but have stopped buying seeds online as they never germinate for me. Fresh Hedychium and Cautleya I can sprout no problem though?

I cant get hold of him ive tried email, private message even tried to phone his phone no on his A tropc page lol but not herd andy thing at all back from him. So dont know if hes still about posting etc? I tried to contact him as i see he had some seed up for sale etc I just couldnt track him down.

yeah i emailed him from there too. There is still aprivate message i sent him here in the out box incase but it seems hes a hard man to track down lol He may even see this post and get intouch will see.

I germinated seed a couple of years ago I think it was hedychium Gardnerianum , don't remember then being difficult to germinate but I may have been lucky? I got the seed from jungle seeds.

I germinated a few Hedychium species before, I think I got the seeds from eBay. Many sprouted after a month and most of the rest sprouted within 3. There's definitely still hope!

Well nothing's showing any sign of life with mine yet but will leave them be and hopefully Sotho f swill sprout at some point lol
