Is there a critical temp for Dicksonia antarctica damage?
Is there a critical temp for Dicksonia antarctica damage?
My first winter with my Dicksonia antarctica, and currently have the crown stuffed with fleece. We have avoided the worst of the weather so far but with no end in sight, and snow seemingly for everywhere tomorrow I wondered in what conditions/temp the crown fleece is simply not enough?
Re: Is there a critical temp for Dicksonia antarctica damage
It's only if you have prolonged subzero day and night that you need to worry. With protection of the crown and wrapping of the trunk mine took -11c but the daytime rebounded up over freezing. With the crown stuffed snow wont be an issue.
Most wanted list - Any Young Trachycarpus and/or fern.
Re: Is there a critical temp for Dicksonia antarctica damage
It should be ok. I have fleece in the crown and around the first 2ft of trunk.
Re: Is there a critical temp for Dicksonia antarctica damage
Mulch at the base of my 7 footer, loftinsultion around trunk, straw and fleece over crown, and protected with breathable plastic hat.As soon as its milder the crown will be exposed to breathe and stop any rot.
