Five years growth

I'd say that Phoenix has put on a pretty reasonable rate of growth myself.
If you look at the wooden deck/platform in both pictures you can see the height has grown by at least a good 2-3ft. in that space of time, and the leaves look far less stretched between the petioles in the 2nd picture.
I wouldn't mind betting it was forced growth we're looking at in the 1st pic which would also help explain why the Chammy has started to over-take it, which is undoubtedly doing well.
Also, though it's difficult to see, I'll bet that trunk base has put on a fair bit of girth. :D

Nigel Fear ... as luck would have it, I was out earlier this afternoon gauging such a thing (photo included). Overall height on P. canariensis is 6', C. humilis is slightly less.
I used a 12.oz beer can for comparison.

Cheers, Barrie.

That trunk looks pretty healthy there Barrie.
Do you reckon that's where most of the growth has concentrated?

Maybe if you switch beers too, to a European brand that would help.

Growth has been proportioned evenly, fronds and trunk size. I think at some point the trunk will bulk up before it begins to gain in height, as is the case with most palms.

Never had a European beer ... too pricey with the import duties etc. I'm cheap and have poor taste.

Cheers, Barrie.
