Very nice Rod. I take it your climate is very similar to the south coast in the uk?. karl.
Re: NEW Palm purchases this week
Hi Karl - Yes similar in some ways, but we have more sunshine hours, and more intense ultraviolet radiation than the south coast of the U.K - We average 2,144 hrs of sunshine per year.karl66 wrote:Very nice Rod. I take it your climate is very similar to the south coast in the uk?. karl.
Our Mean Global radiation intensity is: 1,346 kWh/m2 ( 4847 Mj/m2 )

Re: NEW Palm purchases this week
Never heard of the south coast being likened to New Zealand before
Looking at Rods various photos, I have a sneaking suspicion he has a tad more favourable conditions

Yeah, I'd agree - I'd say the English south coast is a reasonable comparison for Invercargill or Dunedin (except drier), but not Christchurch.flounder wrote:Never heard of the south coast being likened to New Zealand before

Dunedin and Southampton probably have similar climates but Southampton gets slightly more sun.

Hi Rod,
Butia was my favorite for my garden but too expensive what I was seeing in prices. Now I love the Trachicarpus, bought a 9 year old, and about to buy another in a week or so.
Its done really well. I had hoped to have snow on the leaves like the one on my desktop (someone's Image here) but alas..
